২০২৪ সালের আগস্টে স্বৈরাচারী সরকারের পতনের পর তদন্তে দেখা যায়, আয়নাঘরের প্রতিটি সেল পরিকল্পিতভাবে বন্দিদের ইন্দ্রিয় ও মানসিক ভারসাম্য ধ্বংস করার উদ্দেশ্যে তৈরি করা হয়েছিল:
- দিবারাত্রির বিভ্রম: ২৪ ঘণ্টা নিভু নিভু হলুদ বাতি জ্বালিয়ে রাখা হতো, যাতে বন্দিরা দিন ও রাতের পার্থক্য বুঝতে না পারেন।
- শব্দ প্রতিবন্ধকতা (অ্যাকোস্টিক মাস্কিং): করিডোরের উভয় পাশে বিশাল ইন্ডাস্ট্রিয়াল ফ্যান একটানা চালিয়ে রাখা হতো, যাতে বাইরের কোনো শব্দ বন্দিদের কানে না যায় এবং বন্দিদের আর্তনাদ বাইরে না পৌঁছায়।
- অন্ধকারযাত্রা: সেল থেকে বের করার সময় সবসময় বন্দিদের চোখ কালো কাপড়ে বেঁধে ও হাতকড়া পরিয়ে স্থানান্তর করা হতো।
২. বন্দিরা যেভাবে অবস্থান শনাক্ত করেছিলেন
সম্পূর্ণ অন্ধকারে থেকেও বন্দিরা মেধা ও ধৈর্যের সাথে নিজেদের অবস্থান শনাক্ত করেছিলেন। সেলের উঁচু নির্গমন পথ দিয়ে আসা হযরত শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরের বিমানের উড্ডয়ন ও অবতরণের শব্দ এবং ইঞ্জিনের তীব্রতা পর্যবেক্ষণ করে তাঁরা বুঝতে পারেন যে তাঁরা বিমানবন্দর থেকে মাত্র ৫-৭ কিমি দূরে কচুক্ষেত সেনানিবাসের ভেতরে বন্দি।
৩. গুম তদন্ত কমিশনের চূড়ান্ত পর্যবেক্ষণ
জাতীয় গুম তদন্ত কমিশন ২০০৯ থেকে ২০২৪ সালের মধ্যে ১,৫৬৯টি গুমের ঘটনা আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে যাচাই করেছে। এর মধ্যে শত শত বন্দিকে এই আয়নাঘরে আটকে রেখে নির্যাতন চালানো হয়েছিল।
